چکیده

Chronic hepatitis C virus (HCV) infection has been associated with various extrahepatic manifestations, including autoimmune cytopenias. Primary autoimmune haemolytic anaemia (AIHA) has been reported as an unusual extrahepatic manifestation. Combination therapy with pegylated interferon (PEG-IFN) and ribavirin (RBV) is the current treatment of choice for chronic HCV infection. However, this therapeutic regimen can exacerbate underlying autoimmune disorders and may result in a significant anaemia. Though extrahepatic manifestations usually necessitate HCV treatment, the patient with AIHA as an extrahepatic manifestation of HCV infection represents a therapeutic dilemma.

Severe muscle weakness during treatment with pegylated interferon alfa for chronic hepatitis C virus infection A rare complication

Background: Interferons (IFNs) are common therapeutics for several diseases such as viral hepatitis, multiple sclerosis and malignancy. A variety of autoimmune related side effects have been observed during IFN therapy. Rare cases of myopathy, polymyositis or dermatomyositis have been reported during therapy with high doses of IFN^5. Case Presentation: In this report, we describe a case with se...

Pegylated interferon de novo-induce autoimmune haemolytic anaemia in chronic hepatitis C patient.

A 55-year-old Egyptian woman with chronic hepatitis C undergoing treatment with pegylated interferon (Peg-IFN) alfa-2a plus ribavirin was referred to our hospital on November 2010 with prolonged easy fatigability and an attack of syncope; she had no prior history of autoimmune disorders or allergy. Laboratory investigations documented the presence of Peg-IFN induced autoimmune haemolytic anaemi...

Pegylated interferon for the treatment of hepatitis C virus in haemodialysis patients.

In patients undergoing maintenance haemodialysis, hepatitis C virus (HCV) infection is common and may lead to severe complications such as chronic hepatitis, cirrhosis and hepatocellular carcinoma. It is recommended to eradicate HCV infection in dialysis patients awaiting renal transplantation and those with acute hepatitis C or significant chronic liver disease. Interferon-a-2a in monotherapy ...

Treating HCV with ribavirin analogues and ribavirin-like molecules.

Nucleos(t)ide analogues have proven useful in the treatment of viral infections. Ribavirin is a nucleoside, guanosine analogue, whose mechanisms of action include inhibition of inosine monophosphate dehydrogenase (IMPDH), which is the key step in de novo guanine synthesis, a requirement for viral replication. In combination with pegylated interferon alfa, ribavirin is the standard of care for t...

Factors influencing therapeutic response to peginterferron plus ribavirin in the different genotypes of chronic hepatitis C

Abstract Background: Different factors like age, sex, route of infection, initial viral load, levels of liver function tests and genotypes may affect response to treatment in patients with chronic hepatitis C. The purpose of this study was to determine the role of these factors in the treatment of these patients. Methods: From 2004 to 2012, different genotypes of chronic HCV (Hepatitis C ...
